Sounds from the Hudson is one of Clarke's most delightful solos. Although technical challenges are less demanding than in many of his works, the musical expression and ensemble playing between the soloist and the piano require the performers to pay great attention to detail. Clarke recorded this piece with the Sousa Band in 1904 in a somewhat shorter version due to the limitations of time allowed on early cylinder recordings. The full concert version is presented here.
