Dr. Brian Meixner, originally from Macomb, Illinois, is on the faculty at High Point University where he serves as the Assistant Director of Bands and teaches studio low brass. Brian also serves on the faculty at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro as Adjunct Instructor of Euphonium. Brian plays euphonium with the River City Brass Band and serves as the Assistant Conductor of the ensemble. Brian has been featured with the RCBB on several performances. In addition to his duties with the RCBB, Brian plays euphonium and trombone with the River City 6 and the River Bottom Quartet, chamber groups composed of River City Brass members. Prior to his time in North Carolina, Brian Meixner served on the faculties of Slippery Rock University, the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Woman’s University. He also served as the Euphonium Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, where he completed a DMA in Euphonium Performance.
Brian has participated actively as a performer in numerous professional ensembles and as a conductor of various university and high school honor ensembles. He has also been featured as a euphonium solo artist and clinician with several professional ensembles, various universities, community bands, high school ensembles, brass bands, and state, national and international music conferences.
Brian has also been active promoting and commissioning several new compositions for the euphonium. These new works include a 2010 composition for euphonium and wind ensemble by Libby Larsen and several pieces written for euphonium and percussion, which he performed in recital at the 2010 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference. Brian recorded these and other works for euphonium and percussion and will release the album “Praxis” in September 2013 through Potenza Music.
In addition to the DMA, Brian Meixner’s previous education includes a Master’s degree in Euphonium Performance from the University of North Texas, a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Western Illinois University where he studied with Dr. Brian Bowman, Dr. Skip Gray and Dr. Hugo Magliocco respectively.
