B.S., University of Illinois; M.M., Arizona State University. Has studied with such artists as Daniel Perantoni, Charles Daellenbach, Jack Tilbury and trombonist Milton Stevens. He is co-founder/director of the Skyline Brass Music Festival held each summer on the JMU campus.

He is a clinician for Custom Music Company. He has served on the editorial staff of the TUBA Journal and has been a Keystone Brass Institute (Rafael Mendez Brass Institute) faculty member. Stees has presented solo performances at universities, conferences and workshops throughout the United States, including the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference, Southeastern Tuba-Euphonium Conference and the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference. He has been a finalist in several solo competitions and was a prize winner in the Second International Brass Congress Tuba Solo Competition.
