Prometheus and the Gift of Fire was commissioned by the tubist Roger Bobo, composed in 2009 and premiered by University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of trumpet John Aley with UW-Madison Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble under the direction of the composer. It is the first sequel to the composer's earlier work based on Greek mythology, The Liberation of Sisyphus for solo tuba and tuba and tuba/euphonium ensemble.
