Pottag and Hovey Method for French Horn, Book 1
From the Foreword of the book, "That the instructor of instrumental music may better appreciate the aims of the writers, we should like to mention two of the main objectives by which we were guided in preparing this method for publication. Primary attention was given to the selection of melodies and the writing of exercises which, when properly presented, will develop in the beginning student the most desirable musical habits, particularly in the matters of melodic taste and instictive feeling for correct phrasing. Then, to arrange this material in logical order from the standpoint of rhythmic progression, extension of the range, and development of technique, was the next problem to be solved. In doing this, an effort was made to recognize the wide variance in natural ability among beginning students, and to adapt the method to the greatest possible number of individual cases."
